Disney (NYSE:DIS) is laying off 28,000 workers in a response to the pounding its theme parks have taken in the COVID-19 pandemic.
The company's Parks chief Josh D'Amaro notes in a letter to employees that prolonged closures at the parks - and light attendance at the reopened resorts - has set up "difficult decisions," CNBC says.
About 67% of that total were part-time employees, D'Amaro writes in the note. The layoffs come from the Parks, Experiences and Consumer Products segment, though Disney does not detail how many layoffs are specifically in the parks.
