Dentons, the world’s largest law firm, announced today that James Costos, former US Ambassador to Spain and the Principality of Andorra and a leading advocate for entrepreneurship and innovation, joins as a senior managing director in the Venture Technology group and the Technology, Media and Telecommunications sector. He will be resident in the Firm’s Los Angeles (LA) office.

Prior to his confirmation as ambassador, Costos was a highly regarded corporate leader in the international tech, media and entertainment sectors. He was, most notably, in corporate leadership roles at HBO and TOD’S, where he was responsible for global positioning, external relations, marketing and communications. Currently, Costos is also a member of the board of directors of PJT Partners, a global advisory-focused investment bank.

Costos served as US Ambassador to Spain from 2013 to 2017. During his ambassadorship, he focused on growing international security and further strengthening the relationship between the US and Spain, the EU’s fourth largest economy, and geographically and culturally at the crossroads between Europe, the Americas and the Middle East. Costos is the creator and driving force behind the IN3 (IN-cubed) Conference to increase bilateral investment and enterprise between American and Spanish youth.

He is a passionate supporter of human rights organizations, including the Human Rights Campaign. An advocate for cultural institutions and diplomacy, he curated a one-of-a-kind “Art in the Embassies” collection, housed in the US ambassador’s residence in Spain. He holds a BS from the University of Massachusetts.
