CBRE announced today that Meghann Martindale, a veteran of 19 years in retail real estate and a frequent university lecturer and instructor, has joined the company as Global Head of Retail Research. She is based in New York City.
Ms. Martindale, who officially joined CBRE this week, will work closely with the company’s Retail leaders and professionals to generate in-depth research and analysis examining the ongoing evolution of the retail industry into a consumer-directed, omnichannel marketplace. She also will coordinate CBRE’s global research on retail. Ms. Martindale succeeds Melina Cordero, who CBRE promoted in July to Managing Director of Retail Capital Markets.
“Meghann is the perfect choice to continue CBRE’s analysis of consumer preferences, retail innovations, economic shifts and how each factor will shape retail real estate in the future,” said Anthony Buono, CBRE Global President of Retail. “Her broad and diverse experience will enrich the insights she delivers for CBRE professionals and clients.”
Ms. Martindale is returning to CBRE, where she worked as a leasing and sales associate in San Francisco from 2001 to 2006. Her career has included work as a consultant on international retail expansion strategies, asset stabilization, leasing, development and repositioning. She also spent many years in leasing roles at Simon Property Group in New York, Related Urban in Los Angeles and Terranomics Retail Services in San Rafael, Calif. Her leasing career spans projects totaling more than 15 million sq. ft. of retail, mixed use, restaurant, entertainment and food hall space.
Academic experience also will factor into Ms. Martindale’s research at CBRE. She has served as a guest lecturer on retail real estate trends and development at the New York University Schack Institute of Real Estate since 2015, and as an adjunct instructor of real estate development at NYU.
“Meghann will infuse CBRE’s retail research with a rare combination of academic insight and firsthand retail-leasing experience,” said Richard Barkham, CBRE’s Global Chief Economist and Head of Americas Research. “Her experience is a significant asset for continuing CBRE’s analysis of the retail sector, which is in the midst of significant transformation.”
Ms. Martindale’s credentials also include designation as a Certified Leasing Specialist in 2010 and membership in the International Council of Shopping Centers and Urban Land Institute. She earned her B.A. from Pepperdine University. In Ms. Martindale’s new role at CBRE, she reports to Dr. Barkham.
