Muriel Nouwezem

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Saban Community Clinic (SCC) today announced the appointment of Muriel Nouwezem as the new CEO of the non-profit health center effective July 1. Nouwezem stepped in as the interim CEO two years ago and helped the organization grow tremendously. This stabilization of leadership comes at a crucial time for SCC due to the COVID-19 health pandemic and amidst the civil unrest throughout Southern California and the country.

“The Board of Directors has witnessed Muriel flourish in her current role and is impressed with her exemplary leadership, especially during the COVID-19 health crisis,” said Board of Director Co-Chairs, Robert Broder and Russell Alexander-Orozco. “We have full confidence that Muriel is the right leader to continue leading the Clinic and serving those in need in our community. We are in an optimal position to move into the future with her at the helm.”

Before her appointment as CEO, Nouwezem served as Chief Financial and Business Services Officer, overseeing finances and operations for ten years. In response to COVID-19, she has been instrumental in quickly changing processes, protocols and services to reduce the risk of infection to healthcare workers, patients and the community, while also treating those that may be suffering due to the coronavirus. Nouwezem played a key role in expanding SCC’s services throughout Los Angeles, including the opening of two new locations – Virgil Family Health Center and a satellite clinic at The Center at Blessed Sacrament. She also spearheaded many improvements to SCC, such as streamlining operations, solidifying new partnerships, growing the pediatric program and improving clinic finances.

“Saban Community Clinic and the patients we serve are truly my passion. It breaks my heart to see so many people suffer right now,” said Nouwezem. “We will continue to look for ways where we can better serve the most vulnerable members of our community because quality healthcare is a right, not a privilege.”
