With more than 100,000 entries from across the globe, CBRE’s Urban Photographer of the Year competition’s 12th year was its largest and broadest reaching. Alfonso Béjar, from Spain, has been named the overall winner of the competition. Mr. Béjar’s winning image, “Reflexion,” captures a futuristic structure and its near-perfect mirror image in Valencia, Spain.
This year, CBRE introduced an Instagram category, acknowledging social media’s impact on the way photography is captured, shared and discovered. To enter, users submitted their photographs via the social media channel. The prize was awarded to Jerry Kestel from the United States with“Time Travelers,” showing the breathtaking backdrop of Chicago at night from a skyscraper’s glass observation box.
Regional winners were also named. The Americas prize was awarded to Eduardo Castaneda from the United States for his entry, “Transcending Boundaries,” a photograph of visitors immersed in a luminescent digital waterfall. The Asia Pacific prize went to Udayan Sankar Pal from India for,“Bowled Over,” capturing a young boy on his paper route in Hyderabad, India. The EMEA prize was awarded to Joaquín Luna from Spain for his entry, “The Light of the Neighborhood,” featuring a pedestrian illuminated by a natural spotlight in Murcia, Spain.
The Urban Photographer of the Year competition is run annually by CBRE, the world’s leading commercial real estate services and investment firm. Both amateur and professional photographers were invited to submit photos that capture their vision of a future city.

The top prize is a photography trip to a destination of the winner’s choice for themselves and a friend. Regional winners will receive photography equipment and the Instagram winner will receive a GoPro package.
